An expanding list of eligible Arab and international settlement currencies is available in the Buna payment system. Buna has already announced the inclusion of 4 Arab currencies, the Emirati dirham, the Egyptian pound, the Saudi riyal, the Jordanian dinar, in addition to 2 International currencies the US dollar and the euro, with more to come in the future.

Single Currency Circuits

  • Each supported currency will operate on a single circuit
  • Every currency account is independently pre-funded
  • No foreign exchange within the platform
  • One account per currency for each participant
  • Accounts are independent 
    i.e. a debit/credit in any currency is compensated by the opposite position in the same currency

Fund Holding Institutions

The Fund Holding Institutions (FHIs) are the Central Banks of the respective eligible currency or designated commercial banks, which provide fund holding Services to The Arab Regional Payments Clearing and Settlement Organization (ARPCSO) being the System Operator of Buna. in its capacity as an FHI, Central Banks enforce their regulations by participating in the development of the participation eligibility criteria with respect to their currency.
